Africa liquids production is in decline, maximizing the use of existing infrastructure with Infrastructure Led Exploration campaigns (ILX) is one way to stave off declines but it's no 'silver bullet'. As fields get older, water production increases and CO2 emissions per barrel increase, reserves need to be allocated efficiently and surface infrastructure becomes a constraint. One could also argue that in many cases it might be possible to sidestep the exploration phase entirely, particularly in more mature areas by supporting access to existing infrastructure. In Africa there several locations where fields are stranded as they are not large enough to support a standalone development. However, there is infrastructure in the region that could be tapped, enabling the development of these fields if a mechanism was in place that facilitated access to that infrastructure.
In this webinar we will look at perhaps one of the most successful ILX campaigns in Africa, look at the benefits and some of the limitations. We will also look at why Africa plays host to roughly 40 billion undeveloped barrels of oil equivalent less than 30 km from existing infrastructure, and what might be implemented to recover some of these resources.
