From March through July, the US trucking industry seems to have completed a cycle that would normally take at least a year, from a recessionary plunge to an unexpectedly strong recovery that is shifting pricing power to carriers. This isn't a straightforward, V-shaped demand-driven recovery, however. Several factors — especially unprecedented supply chain disruption and dislocation in the COVID-19 pandemic, and changes in consumer purchasing patterns — have affected the availability of truck capacity.
